efforts were futile.
We have done our best to communicate with each and every alumnus, many
addresses were not correct . For sure you know where we are and how to
contact us. But we do not where each one is situated. My earnest request

50th anniversary of Bangalore medical college
Dear BMC alumni
50th anniversary of Bangalore medical college will be celebrated in the
Year 2005. As an alumni it is our moral responsibility to associate in
this Golden Jubilee celebration being held in the city of Bangalore. Our
association has some responsibility and obligation for the college. With
this objective, plans have already have been made to construct a modern
library for the college from our side. More than 6500 doctors have been
qualified since the inception of the College and are placed all over the
globe, many are practicing abroad in the US, UK and other parts of the
world, holding a distinguished position.
Our alumni took a new shape since the inauguration in July 2000, when
Karnaka state health minister inaugurated function. Lots of Encouragement
came from our principal of the college. Thanks to the support of the
executive committee who stood with me and supported uninhibitedly. Since
that time we targeted the issues pertaining to the improvement of the
College, and helped the college in one form or the other such as
sponsoring students need, library need with photocopying machine etc.
We
have actively participated in US based KSMD meeting held in Bangalore,
honored some as distinguished members of alumni, some as honorary members.
Now we have our own web site (www.bmcalumni.com), you are welcome go to
our site as to see the progress or suggestions you may have. Now our main
task is to construct a modern library as a commemoration for The Golden
Jubilee. The estimated cost is around 10 million rupees. A place has
already been identified in the college campus. Some positive response has
already been recieved.
We
further need a huge financial support and help to this Venture. A generous
donation is needed. As an office bearer I look forward to your help and
support in this matter. Please contact Dr Bhanumathi, who is our UK
coordinator, for further information

membership is now 50 US Dollars or 25 Pounds Sterling.
-
It was decided to hire a private architect to make plans for the
alumni building coming up adjacent to the PPC block.
-
A brochure is being made to disseminate information about the Golden
jubilee celebrations and to help in fund raising.
-
A new bank account will be opened to receive funds towards the golden
jubilee activities.
A
new committee is being formed to spearhead the golden jubilee activities.
Dr K M Srinivasa Gowda will be the Organising Secretary. Details of the

Here is an important message from Dr. H C Sathya, President of the
Alumni Association, for doctors planning to go to UK for further studies
and training. Dr Sathya is presently in UK, working as a Consultant
in Cardiology. He has first hand experience of the conditions in UK.
He
writes " Many young doctors come over to UK spending considerable amount
of money on travel, visa and stay. Doctors from Karnataka form a large
part of this group. They stay in suboptimal conditions in east London and
elsewhere. It is very difficult to get clinical attachments. While many
Indian consultants try to help them, they can only offer limited help,
because of various constraints in the system".
Dr
Sathya urges young doctors planning to UK to bear this in mind before
making the final decision to go across. For more information you can
contact Dr Sathya at
sathyahc@hotmail.com.

Dear alumni,
The membership drive
and the work of updating the database is in progress; it is tough work
unless we all pool our resources together, spend time on this and get
others to register with the association.
We feel that one or
two persons from each batch should take the lead in this work; those of
you interested in doing this may kindly contact the secretary or Dr
Lakshman at lakshman@58family.net.
These key persons should then contact their class/batch mates and get
their details. This networking will ensure maximum membership.
The address list we
presently have with the association is neither complete nor accurate. We
have posted out 1340 letters; so far, 20 alumni have responded by giving
us the details we requested; 55 letters have been returned with the label
'addressee not found' on them; response from the rest is still awaited.
This is clearly a poor response. We request all of you to communicate with
us and urge your BMC friends to communicate with us. We could all actively
use the bulletin board on this website.

Dear Alumni,
The
second of the three goals we have before us for the golden jubilee of the
college is to donate a lecture theatre and digital library to the college
to mark the occasion. The present thought is to have a modern lecture
theatre to seat 150 students and provide it with state of the art
audiovisual equipment, including, a modern sound system, a powerful
computer and multimedia projector.
We also
envisage upgrading the library to a digital library with a server and
about 20 nodes; providing access to full text articles through
subscriptions to digital databanks and building up a CD library with
multimedia facilities.
The
college has promised to give land in the PPC block for this purpose. The
proposed building will house the lecture theatre and he digital library
and in addition an office and a board room for the alumni association. The
approximate projected cost for this is Rs. 80 lakhs.
The
third goal is to celebrate the golden jubilee with a gala function where
all the alumni can participate; specific plans are not yet made for the
function. A committee is being formed by the government to plan this; BMC
alumni are going to be involved in a big way.
Your
suggestions and comments on this are most welcome; please contact us on
lakshman@58family.net.
An open letter to all the Alumni of BMC
08/07/2003
Dear Alumni,
As many of you are
aware, the alumni association took on a new Avatar 2 years ago; we have
been trying to get the alumni involved in the working of the association;
we have put up a website; we have some basic information regarding the
constitution and aims and objectives, on the website. We have had a few
get-togethers in Bangalore; the overall response has been lukewarm.
With the Golden
Jubilee of the college coming up in 2005, there is now an urgent need for
all of us to come together and do something substantial for the college
that has helped us reach where we are now. We have identified 3 areas of
concerted effort that is needed to reach this goal.
-
Membership drive
and updating the database.
-
Presenting the
college with a state of the art lecture theatre.
-
Celebrating the
Golden Jubilee with a befitting function
We will post details
of what has been done and what we plan to do in these core areas in the
next few days.
We need your help,
cooperation and suggestions in each one of these activities. Please use
this website and its bulletin board actively and give us your inputs.
The EC approved plans
to update the database of the alumni members. Presently we only have postal
addresses of the members. Some of these addresses may be inaccurate or
might have changed. Also we can save time and money by communicating electronically.
Hence, we have sent out letters to all the members requesting them to
confirm the correct postal address and give us the Fax number and email
addresses. We request the members to respond to this at the earliest.
The Golden Jubilee
of the college is in 2005. Plans are underway to have celebrations to
mark this occasion. Suggestions from the alumni regarding this are most
welcome. You can mail us at lakshman@58family.net,
sathyahc@hotmail.com, or dr_gurumurthy@hotmail.com.
We have plans to donate
a modern lecture theatre to the college. The college has promised to give
us a site to build this on, in the PPC block. We are getting in touch
with architects to get ideas as to how best to do this.
Dear
Alumni,
It
has been more than a year since we inaugurated our Association.Since that
time we have progressed in a gradual manner. I am happy to inform you
that we have recently donated a Xerox machine to BMC Library, as it will
be useful to post-graduate students. The Principle of our College was
happy. We are also planning to link our web-site to Bangalore Medical
College.
Please
make use of the web-site. Kindly send suggestions if any to improve our
Association. We are still in a teething period, as we do not have sufficient
funds to help our college. I earnestly request you to encourage your friends
to become members of our Association.
You
are perhaps aware that The Karnataka Medical and Dental meeting was postponed
due to resent set-back in u.s. will be held as a three-day programme at
the end of June and one of the evenings will be a dinner meet from BMC
on subscription basis. Please make use of this opportunity to meet old
friends on this occasion. Many of our Alumni who are abroad will be happy
to meet you
I
look forward to your kind co-operation and participation. Please patronize
BMC Alumni.
Dr.H.C.Sathya,
President,
BMC Alumni
The BMC Alumni association presented a xerox machine to the BMC Library.
Seen here is the Prinicipal, Mrs (Dr) Meera Muendi receiving the gift from
Dr. H C Sathya, President and Dr. Gurumurthy, Secretary, of the Alumni Association.
" This gift meets a very important requirement of our Library. We are very
thankful to the Alumni Association for the same" said, Mrs. Muendi.
