Our alma mater BMC
has been ranked among the nearly 300 medical colleges in the country by
the INDIA TODAY'S annual survey of academic excellence. This survey is
conducted by India Today-AC Nielsen-ORG-MARG. Dr. K.M.Srinivasa Gowda Message from Dr. Srinivasa Gowda: Dr. K.Ramachandra Murthy - Ophthalmologist of great repute, and whose PRABHA EYE CLINIC WAS synonymous with good eye treatment, passed away in Bangalore on the morning of 28-5-08. He had undergone angioplasty recently. For those of us who knew him from his college days, he was a role model. An outstanding student, he went to the U.K. for higher studies and training in Ophthalmology. He returned to Bangalore and was instrumental in taking his father's Eye Clinic to dizzying heights as a centre of excellence in ophthalmology practice. He worked ceaselessly to transform Prabha Eye Clinic into Prabha Eye Clinic and Research Centre, in later years with the help of his children, who were also ophthalmologists. Despite his really very busy schedule, he always had time for his professional colleagues, his friends and his erstwhile college mates. I still remember the time I went to him asking for help to raise money to build the digital library at BMC at the time of our Golden Jubilee. His busy schedule did not permit him to spend as much time as needed in the initial days, but when gently reminded, he promised to do the needful,, set a target for himself and was as good as his word. As a trustee of the BMC Development Trust, he was always then elder statesman, nay an elder brother on whom we could always lean on for advice and support. Whenever we suggested something, there was only one thing he looked at--whether it would enhance the prestige of the trust, and of the college. He was successful in anything he did--whether in his surgery or in his farm, where he grew coconuts among other things. I can go on and on, But the most important thing is that his leaving us really leaves a big void. I realize that whatever we say will not fill the void his family will feel, and this is really a moment for silence, to silently pray and to silently replay all the wonderful moments that we spent with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and this is one of the instances where Death The Great Leveller, need not be proud. Dr. K.M.Srinivasa Gowda An Appeal Dear Friend, You are aware that the Alumni Association donated a Seminar Hall and Digital Library to the college to mark the Golden Jubilee in 2005. This project was universally applauded as a fantastic achievement. The alumni association decided to maintain the facility knowing fully well that the Government would not be able to do so. Indeed many members insisted this as a precondition before committing themselves to donate for this noble cause. The BMC Development Trust was formed for this specific purpose of improving the infrastructure at BMC and maintaining the facility. This work is going on smoothly and the facility is being put to good use. It costs about Rs. 100,000=00 per month to maintain this facility. We have an ongoing programme of ‘Day sponsorship’ at Rs. 5000=00 per day. Feedback from our members is clearly giving the message that going for donations each year would not be practical. Hence, the trust has decided raise a corpus of Rs. 1.5 crores. The facility can be maintained from the interest generated by this corpus. We appeal to you to give an ‘one time’ substantial donation towards building this corpus. We assure you that this donation will go a long way in serving and helping several genarations of students at BMC. Yours Sincerely,
Dr K M Srinivasa Gowda Dr K Lakshman Chairman Secretary The Revised Seminar Hall tariff is as follows:
Half Day
Clinical Rs. 15000=00 Sponsorship of Library - 01 Jan 2007 The Library and Seminar Hall complex is being maintained by the BMC Development Trust. The cost of this maintenance is a minimum of Rs. 12 lakhs per annum. In keeping with the suggestions that came out in the 'Open House' of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations, the trust has put out an appeal to the alumni to sponsor the Maintenance @ Rs. 5000=00 per day. We will prominently display the name of the sponsor each day at the entrance to the Library. If you have a special day to commemorate, please do let us know. We will try and accommodate this request. Please take this up and generously sponsor several days each, so that we can meet this target and then move on to take up other developmental work in BMC.
